Elizabeth Salgado: Unsolved Murder (2015)

On the 16th of April 2015, Elizabeth Salgado (26) disappeared in broad daylight while walking back to her apartment. Elizabeth had moved from Mexico to Provo Utah on the 23rd of March to study at the Nomen Global Language Center. Because she didn't speak fluent English she didn't have a lot of friends, however, according to her family she had been out multiple times with a man from her apartment complex, as well as being a participant in the young single adult group at the LDS church. Elizabeth kept in regular contact with her family but this stopped abruptly on the 16th of April when she disappeared and a missing person report was filed. A reward of $50,000 was also raised.

Elizabeth had last been seen after leaving the Language Center to head back to her accommodation at the Branbury Apartment complex. This sighting was of her walking North on 500 West. This would have been an approximately 3-minute drive or 23-minute walk for Elizabeth. Initially, it was reported that she last used her phone to text her uncle at 1:30 p.m. asking for a ride to Wal-Mart. However, since then it's been reported that the last text sent from Elizabeth's phone was to her sister. Her sister had asked her what she was doing, and Elizabeth had replied that she had just left school. However, their mother has insisted that the way she responded was not like Elizabeth - who would normally reply very affectionately. The family's private detective said, “We believe it was her attacker and it was intended to throw off her sister that things were fine,” said Jensen.

Then on the 11th of May 2018, her remains were found well off the path at Hobble Creek Canyon, Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. Sadly no cause or time of death could be identified, however, do know that Elizabeth's two front teeth were missing. One clue the Salgado family's PI uncovered was that Elizabeth had attended a church event just four days before her death, near the same canyon where her remains were found.

Another clue is that Elizabeth's last text was written in Spanish, and if the PI and family's theory that it was written by her killer is correct- this means that the killer must speak and write Spanish. Considering that Elizabeth was studying at a Language Center and disappeared on the way home, could it be possible that a fellow student or teacher offered her a ride?

Devastatingly, in September 2021 Elizabeth's Aunt Miriam also went missing near  Zion National Park and her car was discovered parked at the side of a road. Her remains were found in March 2023, approximately 3 hours south of where Elizabeth had been found.
