Selina McDonald: Missing, presumed dead (2009)

On December 4th 2009, Selina McDonald (35) went missing from her home Portishead. After leaving her home in Phoenix Way, Selina was last seen on CCTV in the High Street walking towards Portishead Beach. Her mobile phone, purse and medication were discovered at the beach near the Royal Hotel the following afternoon on December 5. Selina has never been found.

Selina is 5ft 10ins tall and was described as being of slim build with dark brown, shoulder-length hair at the time of her disappearance. She was wearing a brown leather jacket, blue jeans, grey suede boots, carrying a brown handbag and scarf. It's also believed that she was wearing a gold wedding ring and four or five silver bracelets.

Selina shared her home with her with partner Leo Coleing (41). She was also a mother to a daughter named India (Inca) McDonald. India (Inca) has spent years searching for the truth about what happened to her mother, and has claimed that police theorised that Selina had 'jumped into the sea the day after she went missing.'

Mr Coleing (at the time an unemployed painter and decorator) claimed that Selina 'left our flat on the Thursday evening at around 9pm and said she was going for a walk up to the beach. She had been in a bit of a weird mood during the day but she often went off to meet friends, so initially I didn't panic."

Strange Coincidence

In September 2009 (months before Selina's disappearance, Leo Coleing's niece Holly Coleing (19) was found dead on the beach near the Royal Hotel - the same area where Selina's belonging were found after she disappeared.

A police spokesman said at the time of Holly's death: “We were called just after 1pm on Saturday to reports that a body of a teenage girl had been discovered on the beach near Pier Road. We are not treating the death as suspicious and the matter has been referred to the coroner.”
