On the 31st of August 1987, a woman's decomposed right foot was found in a training shoe in Middleton, Lancaster in the UK. Subsequently, her left foot was found in the same type of white sock and identical Size 4 training shoe in Heysham also in Lancaster. It was determined that the remains belonged to a European White woman who was aged between 17 and 50 years old.
I'm surprised more is not known about this and that more investigation has not been done. The distance between Haysham and Middleton is around 1.7 miles, meaning that it's likely that the remains were placed separately to begin with - as opposed to having been moved by wildlife. This could lend itself to foul play having been involved. The rest of the woman's body has never been found.
It's unknown whether there is an active investigation going on to discover the identity of this woman, however with modern DNA technology it would be interesting to find out what happened to the remains and whether DNA could be extracted.
